Greenpoint Terminal Gallery is pleased to present SOFT COUNTING, a solo exhibition of works by Chicago-based artist Samantha Bittman. The exhibition features new paintings on hand-woven textiles and one hand-made tile sculpture. In each work, the image and the structure of the object are generated simultaneously through given and improvised processes of simple counting, repetition, and basic geometrical decision making.

Samantha Bittman (b. 1982, Chicago) lives and works in Chicago. She received her M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her B.F.A. in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design. Recent exhibitions include, Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Paris London Hong Kong, Western Exhibitions, and threewalls in Chicago; The Green Gallery East, Milwaukee; David Castillo Gallery, Miami; Guerrero Gallery, San Francisco, CA, and Southfirst Gallery in Brooklyn. She has participated in residency programs at Skowhegan, Ox-Bow, and at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art. In 2012, she was a recipient of the Chicago Artadia Award, and is currently on faculty at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
